Jump start service in Franklin, WI
Dead battery at home, at work or in a parking lot? A jump start usually gets you moving again in minutes.
Franklin Towing & Roadside is a referral service. Your call is connected to an independent local towing provider.
Signs it’s the battery
- A rapid clicking sound when you turn the key or press start.
- Dim dashboard lights, or no lights at all.
- The engine cranks slowly, especially on a cold morning.
Cold weather cuts a battery’s power, so a battery that was weak in the fall often gives out on the first very cold night. Most car batteries last roughly three to five years.
When a jump won’t work
If the car still won’t start with a good jump, the problem may be the starter, the alternator or a corroded battery cable. At that point a tow to a shop is the next step. Don’t jump a battery with a cracked or bulging case, which can happen when a dead battery freezes.
After the jump
- Drive for at least 20 to 30 minutes, ideally not short stop-and-go trips, so the alternator can recharge the battery.
- If the battery dies again within a day or two, get it tested. Many auto parts stores test batteries for free.
- Check the terminals for white or green crust. Corrosion can stop the battery from charging properly.
Common questions
Can you jump a car in a parking garage?
Usually, yes. Jump starts are done with a portable pack, so the truck doesn’t need to fit inside. Tell the dispatcher which level you’re on.
Can a hybrid or electric car be jumped?
Many have a small 12-volt battery that can go flat and be jumped from terminals under the hood. Check your owner’s manual and mention the model when you call.
